Where are you on the Dream Map of Turkey?

Dreaming is an indispensable source of motivation for some to get away from reality and for others to realize one's self. In fact, a person's dreams contain important details about what kind of person he is and will be. Every person, from childhood to adulthood, puts their dreams at the center of their lives at some point in their life. This could be a three-year-old's dream of becoming an astronaut, or it could be Elon Musk's SpaceX project.

What is a dream?

The DNA of the dream is fueled by the motivations of uniqueness, power, and revival. According to the Turkey's Dream Map research conducted by Intel in Turkey, the rate of those who dream in accordance with the DNA of dreams is only 15%. This is a very low rate. We don't know how to dream in general. We can't dream, we just hope. “What is your biggest dream?” When the question is asked, everyone has an answer to give. Well, if we ask ourselves this question, do we really have an answer that can satisfy ourselves? In the light of what we have, our level of awareness and expectations, can we create a source of motivation suitable for the DNA of the dream?

Turkey's Population Young Dreams Old

The biggest dream of those who participated in the research is to have a profession and to be self-assured with a rate of 48%. When we look at the most imagined professions, the picture we see is as follows:

Being a Teacher

Becoming a Doctor/Veterinarian

  • Being a Footballer/Athlete/Trainer

  • Being an Artist

  • To become a pilot

  • Being engineers

  • To be a cop

  • Being a Lawyer

In what year do you think this research was conducted?

1980, 1990?

Actually, this research was done in 2016. But even if it was done 20-30 years ago, there would be no significant change in the results. Maybe we have new habits with digital transformation, we can update many things every day, but we seem to be a little short of updating our dreams. Even though we live in this information society where the world has become a global village, when we say dream, we understand profession and we see our dreams as an unnecessary detail in the flow of daily life. At this point, we are faced with the following question, “Are our dreams comprehensive enough to embrace the future or insufficient enough to get lost in the difficulties of daily life?

Entrepreneurial Spirit and DNA of Dreams

Children are the future of all of us, we agree on this. Almost half of the people interviewed in Intel's research had never dreamed, even as a child. As we age, our imagination rate decreases rapidly. It turns out that the biggest factor in this is the structure of the society, the possibilities of the place where we live and the role of our families in making dreams come true.

It is not in the DNA of the dream we mentioned before that adults, who cannot control their own dreams or even dream, own and direct the dreams of children. Could this be the reason why that entrepreneurial spirit that exists in children and every adult individual's childhood disappears when they grow up? After all, we are all members of the group that is at the highest level among the creatures living on the earth. Political, cultural and many other variables affect people's lives in many ways, but at this point, it is much easier to reach information and take action compared to previous periods.

The Meaning of Entrepreneurship

The answers given when asked about entrepreneurship in the research:

We do not think about being an entrepreneur.

In the same research, “Have you ever thought of entrepreneurship in your life?

The rate of those who answered "no" to the question "" is 78%. We also see being an entrepreneur as a reward for wealth. The percentage of those who say that they need to have good financial means to be an entrepreneur is 40%.

As Education Level Increases, We Stand Closer to Dreaming and Entrepreneurship Contrary to the general population, 78% of university students have a positive view of being an entrepreneur. With the effective positioning of universities as places nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit, it is also revealed that our young people, whose dreams have dwindled, have a very important role in unlocking their potential.

Young people approach entrepreneurship through the digital economy. The research reveals that the first entrepreneurial idea among university students emerges in adolescence with 36%, and this rate decreases to 30% as the age progresses. 75% of university students believe that the business environment in Turkey does not pave the way for entrepreneurs, but rather complicates them. On the other hand, only 34% of university students believe that billion-dollar companies will emerge from Turkey.

We Must Direct Our Dreams By Connecting Our Courage Correctly

As children, we enriched our lives with questions. As we grew up, our question marks were shaped by dots in certain patterns. The consciousness and awareness that comes with adulthood has actually eroded the courage within us. At this point, raising rich individuals with dreams and feeding them at this point becomes one of the biggest responsibilities of the society. Now is the time to think about where we are on Turkey's Dream Map! Let's not forget the words of Richard Branson, who crowned his dreams with entrepreneurship: “We should all dream and encourage others to dream too. Dreaming is one of the greatest gifts given to mankind.”
